EVERY ADOPTION EXPERIENCE IS DIFFERENT
The issues surrounding adoption can look very different depending on your relationship to it. Prospective adoptive parents may be navigating uncertainty, grief when an adoption falls through, or questions about how adoption will affect a biological child already in the family. They may also be trying to understand how to honor a birth parent’s wishes as they build their new family. People who have been adopted may struggle with questions about identity, belonging, loss, or family relationships. They may also feel guilty for wanting more information about their birth parents or worry that their curiosity will hurt the family who raised them. There is no single way to experience adoption, and the feelings that come with it are often more complicated than other people realize.

MAKING SPACE FOR THE FULL EXPERIENCE
In therapy, I help clients process the emotional side of adoption and find language for feelings that can be difficult to name. We may explore questions around identity, belonging, grief, family relationships, or the desire to learn more about a birth family without treating any of those feelings as disloyal or wrong. I also help prospective adoptive parents prepare for the emotional aspects of the adoption journey, navigate uncertainty, and build confidence as they move through the process. My goal is to provide a space where clients feel understood and able to talk openly about an experience that is unique to them.
